Matchday 22 Revisited – After the disappointment of the previous game (Game 41 Cambridge Vs Bolton) being postponed only 8 minutes into the game, we were looking forward to finally seeing a football match, and this was the 2nd attempt of finally seeing Accrington Stanley at the Wham Stadium. Our previous visit on December 5, 2023, ended in the game vs. Lincoln City being abandoned on the stroke of kick-off.
Due to the weather over the previous few days, I was worried this game would also be postponed or even abandoned. We set out a little earlier than normal due to Liam being on half term, and our previous journey was a traffic nightmare.
We left the Midlands in ridiculous rain conditions, yet our weather app was showing no rain in Accrington until at least 1900, so we continued our journey. Traffic again was a nightmare despite us setting off earlier. The worst was around Warrington, where we traveled in over 11 miles of crawling traffic, the worst I’ve ever experienced.
Despite the traffic, we arrived in Accrington in approximately 3 hours and 25 minutes. This was incredible considering our journey. We decided to try and find nearby free parking, which was relatively easy on a street with a 3-minute walk to the ground.
As I was unable to purchase a child ticket online, I had to contact Accrington via the phone, which meant I had to collect them from the ticket office. After speaking to two members of staff, we identified this as a small white hut near the club shop. Armed with the tickets, we headed for the turnstile and into the ground.
Liam, craving a pie, indulged in a Potato and Meat pie from the Pie Stand. He absolutely loved this.
We then headed into the ground and waited for kick-off, watching the players and grateful the weather was a lot better. The rain started in the 2nd half and continued most of the journey.
The first half was a very boring, evenly contested 0-0. In the 2nd half, Accrington was the better team, settled by two superb strikes, ending 2-0.
Our journey home was much more pleasurable, taking just over 2 hours to get home. We were so happy to finally visit and watch the famous Accrington Stanley.

Barnet Vs MK Dons
My son Liam, Grandad Steve and I completed the famous 92 Football League Grounds challenge for the second time with a trip to The Hive, Barnet FC’s state‑of‑the‑art home since 2013 after 106 years at Underhill for Matchday 97. Grandad Steve kindly agreed to drive, giving my car a much‑needed

Oldham Athletic Vs Bromley
Matchday 96 saw us heading north to Boundary Park, home of Oldham Athletic. This was the first of two newly promoted clubs we’d be visiting this season following their return to the Football League from the National League. For me, this felt like more than just another ground to tick

Everton Vs AS Roma
Matchday 95 was 106 days since we completed the previous 92 Football League Ground challenge. However during the 2025/2026 we now need to complete 3 clubs. 2 moving up from the National League (Barnet and Oldham) along with Everton FC who moved from their historic Goodison Park to a brand
