Matchday 38 kicked off with Grandad Steve behind the wheel, affording me the luxury of enjoying the journey. While traffic occasionally slowed us down, particularly along the M40, it didn’t significantly impact our travel time, and we reached Wycombe in just under 2 hours. Securing free parking at a nearby business, thanks to the gracious permission of one of the workers, was a pleasant surprise, and a brief 4-minute walk brought us to the stadium.
Arriving more than 2 hours before the game provided us with ample time. After a swift restroom break for Liam, we headed to the fan zone inside a spacious marquee, where we caught most of the FA Cup game between Ipswich Town and Maidenhead United. The experience was fantastic, featuring a lively atmosphere complemented by a couple of IPAs. Following this, we ventured into the stadium.
The stadium’s location on the edge of the Chiltern Hills provided a picturesque backdrop. Once inside, we took several photos and treated ourselves to reasonably priced hot drinks at £2 each. Unfortunately, Liam’s sore throat prevented him from continuing with his VLOGs, prompting a decision for me to take over—a change that added a new dimension, much to Liam’s delight.
Notably, the toilet facilities were among the cleanest we had encountered during our football journey, earning Wycombe Wanderers a commendation.
Despite the attendance hovering just under 4000, the atmosphere in the stadium was vibrant. The match itself was action-packed, featuring four goals, two penalties, and a red card.
Opting to leave on the 86th minute, we considered the singular road leading away from the ground and wanted to avoid potential post-game congestion.
The drive home proved uneventful, and we reached our destination in approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. Overall, Wycombe Wanderers provided a memorable experience on Matchday 38.
